A new academic year ushers in hopes for a progressive future. It redefines and refines educational objectives and perspectives. As the world shrinks into a global village and colleges into centers of increasingly specialized learning the emerging trend is to interrelate and connect the myriad links of the web of life.

Having opened the heart of the atom, we realize that nothing happens in isolation.Physicists call this "the butterfly effect". That means if a butterfly should fly in here and get hurt, the effect of that accident would be felt all over the world. A small change can thus affect and reshape the entire system. They have also discovered that nothing can be studied objectively because to look at something is to change and be changed by it.

These are potent ideas in education as they open up vistas for qualitative change. As Paolo Freire asserts, "Education is the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world".
