OUR EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

 

National Service Scheme (NSS): The aim of the NSS is 'Personality Development through Community Service'. The NSS gives students opportunities to engage themselves in constructive action for social welfare. Educational, health-related, agricultural and self-employment programmes are included in the various activities. Students holding the NSS Volunteer Certificates will be given bonus marks for the Degree and Post-Graduate admissions as well as for P.S.C. jobs.

Highlights:

* Four voluntary blood donation camps organised by Sree Chitra Blood Bank and Medical College Blood Bank, in which 75 students donated their blood.

* Eigtheen sets of uniforms donated to students of Karikkakom Govt School.

* Spoken and Remedial English classes conducted by three Final Year B.A English students at Govt.College Karikkakom (For high school students).

 

ASCAA: (All Saints' College Alumni Association) fosters and maintains fraternal feelings among old students of the college and works for the betterment of the Alma Mater. The ASCAA offers financial help to needy students and is actively involved in improving facilities on the campus.

Highlights:

* Construction of toilet for Anganwadi at Karikkakom underway.

 

Competitions & Prize winners:


* At the All India Intercolligeate D.C Kizhakkemuri Memorial Quiz Competition V.S Indu and Jinju S secured 2nd Prize.They received Rs.25000/- as prize money.

* At Rangoli, an inter-colligiate fest organised by Soorya,pact of Sun TV network, college dance team -Nayana Chandra & party secured Ist Prize in both the dance items.

 

Career Guidance Cell: The Career Guidance Cell acts as an agent of selection in order to facilitate jobs for our students. Through campus recruitment drives held in the college, the students have found employment with companies such as Infosys, HSBC, Wipro, Genpact etc. The Cell also co-ordinates career counselling sessions on the latest trends in the job arena.

Highlights:

* Allianz Cornhill,Technopark gave a talk followed by interviews to final year students and many of them got placement.

 

Seminars & Exhibitions :

* Inter Disciplinary Science Exhibition on subjects Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Botany on January 2008.

* Seminar on 'Datastructure using C' by maths department conducted on 9th to 11th January 2008.

* Relabelling and augmentaryof medical plant garden by botany department.

 

AICUF & Jesus Youth: As a Christian Institution, the college takes special interest in the religious and moral formation of the students. Regular Christian Doctrine and Ethics classes are held for students. Under the AICUF (All India Catholic University Federation) and the JESUS YOUTH, the annual Retreat, the 1st Friday Eucharistic Celebration, Prayer Service, Prayer Groups, Seminars and Talks are conducted in the college.
Students are encouraged to participate in the Seminars and campus conferences of the AICUF and JESUS YOUTH respectively, held outside the college, with the permission of their parents.
All the Catholic students are expected to participate in the above mentioned activities. These programmes are also open to all the students of our college, irrespective of caste or creed.

 

All Saints' Collge All Teachers Association: Our retired teachers have joined hands with the present staff and are still active in college. The ASCATA does its bit for society by being involved in charitable works.

Computer Classes: These classes cater to the needs of the poor students who are unable to join computer courses due to financial problems.

Grievance Redressal Committee: The committee follows a system by which the students can express their grievances regarding any aspect of the College or campus. A complaint box is set up for this purpose. The Committee takes these complaints seriously and immediate corrective measures are taken.

 

Students' Forum: It is an association run purely by the students and endeavours to nurture their creativity and leadership qualities. Students are expected to organise activities like quiz, poetry and essay writing competitions etc. in the college.

 

Spoken English: The senior students get an opportunity to train the underprivileged junior students to acquire better skills in Oral Communication. These classes are beneficial to both, where the senior students take it on as a part of social service and the juniors get coaching without economic stress.

Tutorial System: This system has been introduced with the goal of helping slow learners by supplementing their regular classes with remedial coaching. Difficult concepts are revised and personal interaction and monitoring by the tutor brings about a great difference in the performance of the students concerned.

 

Vocational Training Centre: It was started in 1990 with the aim of imparting tailoring skills to the students and the girls in the vicinity. The centre also has Type Writing classes for the students.

 

Women's Studies Cell: This is part of the Women's Development studies started by the U.G.C. Various programmes are conducted in the college to create awareness among the students about current problems related to women. The Cell works for the development of the students, helping them to solve personal and academic problems. There is a Counsellor at the service of the students. The students are encouraged to volunteer to help their friends and their less fortunate sisters.
